Going Grey – The final chapter

Read Ch 29 Set Down Your Glass here…

It is the end of an era.  The three books of Kate and Elliot’s love story are now complete.  Please enjoy!

Great minds come in all forms but we are often limited by the constraints of how we believe society perceives us. It is no secret that I cut my own education short to seek out broader horizons. While I have no regrets about that decision for myself, I will always be concerned at the message it might send out to others, including my own children. Working hard and continuing to learn and develop your mind, body and soul are important endeavors, not to be wasted. That is why I continue to fund the extraordinary body of research that emerges from Washington State University. That is why I stand here before you today and urge you to listen very carefully to the story I am about to share.

Launching Book 3: Going Grey

Going Grey – Book 3 of Kate and Elliot’s story is here and I am launching it with two chapters.

Going Grey

Chapter 1: In The Shadows

Seattle, you seem to be preoccupied with all things Grey so La Ferret has been snooping about to satisfy the Grey-sessed.

Chapter 2: Mouth

“8-7.” Maneuvering myself back into serving position I immediately launch an impossible lob that Christian has no chance of getting to. Taking a moment to retie my shoelace I am aware of him stalking toward me. I look up at his intimidating stance over me. Deliberately taking my time I rise up and face off with him. At first it looks like he isn’t going to say anything. Then his voice, cold and menacing spits out.

“What the fuck was that?” He expects me to cower. Not this time, not any more.

“A point to me, fuckwit.” I chest bump him pushing him backwards across the court. More shock filters through his glare than I have ever seen and I mentally give myself a high five. Expecting him to move into position so I can take another point off him I am surprised when he is still standing directly in front of me as I prepare to serve. It only takes a moment for the look on his face to piss me off completely. It is Christian and his piss poor timing and fucked up history that has had me covering or bailing out his ass almost every day for the past 12 years. I pull back my racket and serve a volley straight into his balls taking him to his knees with a grunt.

Chapter 22: Hold On

Didn’t they always say we were the lucky ones?
I guess that we were once
Babe, we were once

But luck will leave you cause
It is a faithless friend
And in the end when life has got you down
You’ve got someone here that you can wrap your arms around

So hold on to me tight
Hold on to me tonight
We are stronger here together
Than we could ever be alone
So hold on to me
Don’t you ever let me go

There’s a thousand ways for things to fall apart
But it’s no one’s fault
No it’s not my fault

Maybe all the plans we made would not work out
But I have no doubt even though it’s hard to see
I’ve got faith in us and I believe in you and me

So hold on to me tight
Hold on, I promise it’ll be alright
Cause it’s you and me together
And baby all we’ve got is time
So hold on to me, hold on to me tonight

There’s so many dreams that we have given up
Take a look at all we’ve got
And with this kind of love
What we’ve got here is enough

So hold on to me tight
Hold on, I promise it’ll be alright
Cause we are stronger here together
Then we could ever be alone
Just hold on to me
Don’t you ever let me go
Hold on to me, it’s gonna be alright
Hold on to me tonight
They always say we were the lucky ones

“So how are the plans for the wedding going? Do we have a date yet?” The little tight smile gives her away. Oh crap.

“Yeah, three weeks from Saturday.” Holy shit! Then the unthinkable enters my head. Why does anyone get married so fast? She’s fucking pregnant! And I feel the bile rise in my throat. I have to get out of here.

The day after Kate moves out of the treehouse, in spite of desperately wanting to find her, I have to go back to work. James meets me at the first site and we go through the progress being made with the site foreman and the project manager. Our meetings take all morning as we both get back up to speed with the business. Christian has requested a meeting this afternoon to discuss renovations on his latest purchase, a mansion for he and Ana. I leave James to it and head over to Grey House.

Christian meets me in the foyer and we go to a cafe to talk. He is happy and enthusiastic about this project and I am trying hard not to punch his fucking lights out. All of his shit seems to have cleared and mine is just beginning. I want to yell at him for being so fucking blissfully happy. I just lost my baby you dumb fuck! And Kate won’t talk to me. Don’t you get it? I don’t fucking care!

I don’t say any of this. Instead I smile and nod and promise to talk to Gia. I feel sick about having to talk to her. Gia, whose presence in my life made Kate cry so desperately on the floor of her apartment. When I leave Christian I drive over to the apartment but no one is there. Of course, Kate is at work. Starting her new life as if nothing has happened. It is like she doesn’t care which I know isn’t true. I watched her heart break yesterday. I tried so hard to catch the pieces before they fell but she pushed and I failed. Again. I don’t know what to do.
